Douglas Dunn

Postmodern dancer/choreographer Douglas Dunn (1942-) began dancing in college and initially studied ballet. He expanded his palette while attending Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in 1963, and continued studying modern dance after graduation. Dunn performed with Yvonne Rainer (1934-) and Merce Cunningham (1919-2009) in the late 1960s and early 1970s and was a member of the performance group, The Grand Union until 1976, when he founded his own company. 

Also Born Today: Member of the Osage Nation and younger sister of ballerina Maria Tallchief (1925-2013), ballerina Marjorie Tallchief (1926-2021) danced with the Paris Opera Ballet and choreographer/visual artist Dana Reitz (1948-).
